Alexis Parras exhibition in Skulpturarena Øst is a meeting set up between materials sourced from the overflow of daily life and sculptures constructed by different elements reused and adapted to new shapes and combinations in an ambience of shadows and colored lights. From his background in a culture where material is sparse and invention is a survival skill, Parra is sensitive to the inherent information carried by materials or objects, whether this speaks of historical conditions or daily chores and utilities. The sculptural objects hints at functions we can only speculate on, and at the same time they reveal an interest in design as a way of promoting fantasy. In a grave global situation, Parra believes in humor and inventiveness as a way of creating reflection and engagement with experimental solutions.
